RVRG and TCRG Split The Weekend's Matches (Part 2)

The second bout of the Rideau Valley Roller Girls vs Tri City Roller Girls double header saw the Slaughter Daughters taking on the Vicious Dishes.

The Daughters had an early power jam as the Dishes jammer, Motorhead Molly, was sent to the penalty box for a major penalty in the opening seconds of the match. Daughters jammer Soul Rekker also drew a major, and Molly was released from the box early, but time ran out on the jam, which ended scoreless.

First blood went to the Slaughter Daughters as co-captain Ripper A. Part as she scored the first Grand Slam of the match, and followed it up with a couple more on her second scoring pass. They ran the score up to an impressive 22-0 with less than 10 minutes played following another power jam for Soul Rekker. The Vicious Dishes weren’t down for long, though, as they ran back to back 9 point jams, and were right back in the game.

Soul Rekker continued with an impressive scoring rate as she racked up Grand Slam after Grand Slam early in the first half, and the Slaughter Daughters found themselves up 46 to 22 by the time the first time out of the bout was called, with 10 minutes remaining in the half.

The first injury of the night took place with 5 minutes remaining. A multi-player pileup left the Dishes’ blocker Annaslaysia Killsemov lying on the track as the Slaughter Daughters’ co-captain Drunky Brewster ended up riding her down to the ground. It looked like it could have been a shoulder separation or dislocation as her arm was trapped under her body, but she was helped off the track with a team mate and a paramedic providing support under her arms. The paramedic looked after her for a few minutes on the bench while the match resumed.

The Slaughter Daughters had dominated the pack during the first half (of the first half), but the Vicious Dishes were starting to assert their authority as the game progressed. They started to gain lead jammer more often, but with the Daughters’ jammer usually hot on her heels, they had a hard time reducing the lead by more than a couple points at a time.

With just under a minute to go in the half, the Slaughter Daughters lead by 13 points, and the half ended 53 to 36.

Pack control became the major theme of the second half, as the Slaughter Daughters and Vicious Dishes both sought to find a gap for their jammers to exploit. The Daughters’ put out a very defensive game plan, which included trapping a Dishes blocker amongst them and moving the pack backwards along the track to put the remaining Dishes blockers out of play. This allowed their own jammer to pass through unmolested under the risk of the blockers taking major penalties.

Soul Rekker continued her domination of the track, scoring 24 unanswered points in a single power jam, and with 5 minutes remaining in the game, the Daughters had a commanding 102-56 lead.

The Dishes started to close the gap with back to back 4 point jams, followed by a power jam where they were able to pick up another 16 points. But it was too little, too late and the match ended with the Slaughter Daughters over the Vicious Dishes 106-80
