RVRG and TCRG Split The Weekend's Matches (Part 1)

The Rideau Valley Roller Girls welcomed the Tri city Roller Girls in a double header that saw the Riot Squad fall to the Venus Fly Tramps in the last jam, and the Slaughter Daughters dominate the Vicious Dishes.

The first match of the event was the Riot Squad v Venus Fly Tramps. First blood went to the Tramps as Konky took lead jammer and rounded the pack for a quick 3 points, but after a couple of shaky jams, the Riot Squad pack started to step up their game. After several scoreless jams, they managed to take over the lead and, by the 6th jam, had opened up an 11-3 lead. The Tramps aren’t kept down for long, and they score the first Grand Slam of the night as the Riot Squad’s Arsenic Martini is kept trapped in the pack.

The first Jammer penalty went to Freudian Whip in the 10th jam, which gave Slavic Slayer the chance to increase their lead, but time ran out before she was able to clear the pack and she was then herself sent to the penalty box as the jam ended. This allowed Whip to jump out of the box at the start of the next jam, and she ran riot through the pack as the Tramps retook the lead with a score of 21-17 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

With the lead change, the Tramps took control of the rest of the half, and ran the lead up to 10 points before Leigh-zzie Borden was sent to the box, and the Riot Squad’s ever popular Death From Below was able to take lead jammer and she was able to bring the score back to within 1 point with only 4 minutes to go, and the half ended with the Tramps up 40 to 35.

The second half again started with Konky taking first blood with a quick 4 points. Death From Below struck back in the next jam with 4 of her own, leaving the gap exactly the same. A few jams later, she took a 4th minor, and was sent to the box, which allowed Konky to take 13 unanswered points in the resulting power jam. Back to back lead jams by Death From Below and Crash Karma in following jams helped them back to within 5 points with 15 minutes remaining in the half.

Mudblood and Slavic Slayer took a pair of major penalties as they combined to take down Tramp’s jammer Konky, which left the Riot Squad down to just 3 skaters, and jammer Arsenic Martini quickly joined her teammates in the box, as the Trams lead 75 to 59 with 10 minutes to go. The next jam was the Riot Squad’s turn at a power jam, and Arsenic Martini had her best showing of the night, bringing them back to within 7 points.

With 7 minutes to go, N.Toxicate took the star for the first time, and hit for 12 allowing the Riot Squad to regain the lead by 2 points. Crash Karma had another big jam while Konky (who had run so many jams that she was starting to look gassed) struggled with the pack. She picked up 10, and both jammers were sent to the box as the jam ended. Crash again had a big jam, and puts the Riot Squad up by 14 with only 2 minutes remaining in the half.

In the penultimate jam of the bout, the Tramps hit back for 4, leaving them with only 10 to tie the match up in the final jam. The Riot Squad started with 2 blockers in the box as the jam starts, which gave Leigh-zzie Borden a chance to strike. She managed to get lead jammer, and managed her first Grand Slam as Crash Karma was stuck in the pack. She passed through a second time to tie the game, and picked up another 4 as the Tramps took the lead, and the match, it in the dying seconds of the game. The final score was 100-96.
