Weekend Update

This weekend, the Capital City Derby Dolls travelled to Watertown, NY to take on the Nitro Rollers, one of the Black River Rollers home teams. The game was incredibly physical on both sides, but the Dolls had clearly mastered the art of controlled agression, while the Rollers were far more sloppy in their blocking which lead to a lot of penalties on their side.

They started the match shorthanded, with their star jammer in Florida on vacation and  two of their more senior skaters taking on refereeing responsibilities due to a lack of dedicated referee staff in their league. The Dolls brought along 3 of their senior refs, including league head ref Hell 'n' Ripley who ended up overseeing the bout.

The number of penalties mounted in the second half, and two of the Rollers' skaters, including acting captain Skitzo, were ejected from the bout for their seventh major, leaving the Rollers with only 8 players for the last 15 or 20 minutes of the bout. The fatigue from the constant skating, combined with a lack of offensive ability due to their jammers being glued to the sin bin seat gave the Dolls free rein to run the score up.

The final was 244 to 89 for the visitors.

Several of the skaters (and a certain host who came down to help NSO staff the bout, and get in some interviews at full time) spent the night in Watertown, and have now driven to Kingston to hang out with our friends, the Limestone CrusHers, as they take on the Misfit Militia, from the Renegade Derby Dames.

As always, follow us on Twitter for up to date scoring from bouts that Ottawa Derbycast is able to attend.
