Weekend Recap

As mentioned in the previous post, there were two away fixtures this weekend, and here are the results of the matches.

The first of the bouts saw a Rideau Valley Roller Girl mixed squad travel to Sudbury, Ontario, to face off against the Nickle City Roller Derby's Sister Slag. RVRG came home victorious, having run the total to 197 vs the Sister Slag's 25.

In the weekend's other match, Capital City Roller Derby's Dolly Rogers made a visit to Syracuse, to face off against Assault City Roller Derby's Battery Brigade. In another fairly one sided match, the Dolls were downed 178-52.
The scoreline was a pretty good indicator of the difference in experience between the two sets of players. The Doll's inexperience showed on the track, mainly in their decision making and pack work. The girls from the Battery Brigade skated together as a cohesive unit, both defensively and offensively. Any gaps made by the Dolls in their efforts to aid their jammer were quickly exploited by her opposite number who often breezed through without having to slow down.
That's not to take anything away from their effort. The Dolls put their all into the match, and if they can put what they've learned from this bout into practice, it will make them a better team on the track. Their second half performance was definitely better than the first half, so their coaching staff had already begun to provide positive feedback.
